As we will be starting our work in Gießen in spring this year, we have projects, space, funding, and supervisors available for studentswho intend to work on their Master's thesis or Bachelor's thesis in our lab. We are using state of the art molecular genetics methods to answer exciting questions in the field of plant evolutionary developmental genetics. We welcome all students interested in plants, developmental biology, molecular evolution, or molecular genetics to work with us.

In mid February 2012, most members and the PI of the plant evo-devo group will move to the Justus-Liebig-University in Gießen (Germany) to be part of the Plant Biology Department. We are all looking forward to this exciting new adventure!!!

At the end of September, Ashwini Bhide started her Master's thesis on posttranslational control of transcription factors involved in flower development. Welcome to the Becker group, Ash!!!

On September 6th, Svetlana defended successfully her PhD thesis. Congratulations to your PhD, Svetlana!!

On February 1, 2011 Kai Pfannebecker started his PhD in the plant evo-devo group. He will work on protein interaction analyses of plant transcription factors. WELCOME!!!

On November 15, Matthias Lange defended his thesis and is now Dr. Matthias Lange! Congratulations!!!!!! He will stay on, working in the Becker group as a Postdoc on an exiting new project while taking care of the odds and ends of his PhD project.

On November 1, Amey Bhide started the work on his PhD project. Welcome back!

On October 1, 2010, Petra Sabelhaus joins the Becker group to write her Bachelor's thesis on protein interaction analyses. Welcome!!

On September 27, Robert Erdmann defended his thesis and is now Dr. Robert Erdmann! Congratulations!!!!!!

In May 2010, Nils Engelke joins our group to write his Bachelor's thesis on the analysis of California poppy transgenic plants. Welcome!

Werner Ross will visit our lab and give a seminar on the regulation of alkaloid biosynthesis in poppies on Friday 30 April.

Tom Gerats (Radboud University Nijmegen, NL) will visit our lab and give a seminar on 16 April on his evo-devo work in petunia.

On Friday 30 October 2009 at 15.15 p.m. Prof.Dr. Renate Horn (Plant Genetics, University of Rostock, Germany) will give a seminar in the BMB seminar series on cytoplasmic male sterility in sunflower.

We welcome our recent additions to the plant evo-devo group: Daniel Rexin (Diploma student started in June 2009), and Jaaee Jadhav (Master student, started in June 2009)

In honor of Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday a lecture series was be held during the summer term starting on April 17th. Every Friday evening at 6 pm internationally renowned speakers presented their ongoing research in the field of evolutionary biology and bioethics. This lecture series was not limited to biologists but was open to anyone (www.darwinjahr-bremen.de).

We have an open HiWi position and need a student to take care of a large collection of California poppy mutants (approximately 20 h/month). Contact Annette Becker for further information.
